The "Blue Team"

The Mira Mesa HS "Sapphire Sound", nicknamed the Blue Team, is an award-winning ensemble that is located in the heart of San Diego. It is the largest Band program in the San Diego Unified School District. Mira Mesa HS is a community based school, so most of our students have grown up with one another. The Band openly accepts new students each year to the program and they always look forward to the many performance opportunities they have as a group.ย

The Band has performed at notable events such as the 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Sydney, Australia, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in New York City at the United Nations and at Carnegie Hall, and they marched in the 2016 and 2022 Tournament of Roses Parades in Pasadena, CA.ย

The school year is always a journey. We look forward to working together. Each student, parent, and staff member is important in our program. We build community with one another, which helps build community within Mira Mesa.ย

The 2023-2024 school year will start off with the "Sapphire Sound" Marching Band and Color Guard having class together. We will be rehearsing for field tournaments and other school/community performances such as football games. In addition to Marching Band, there are three concert ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the Concert Band.

Members from the Band have the opportunity to be a part of many small ensembles throughout the school year. Everyone is also encouraged to audition for the San Diego Unified School District Honor Band, the SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Band, and the CBDA All-State Honor Band.ย

The Color Guard works along side the marching band in the fall semester, adding beauty and grace through dance techniques and expression. In the second semester the group performs for spring evaluation called Winter Guard.ย

Our program believes in hard work, focus, commitment, and being "All in!".ย  We have community pride and work always towards excellence in music! Our Band room is a majestic space to learn and a second home for all. The doors are always open in Sapphire Sound.

One of the most important aspects of the Sapphire Sound is their unity as the "Blue Team", their grit, their willingness to learn new things, and their hope.ย

Together, we achieve great things.ย
