The 220-members of the Sapphire Sound are proud to represent the community of Mira Mesa in San Diego.

The Annual Pancake Breakfast "Breakfast on the Mesa" is this Saturday, September, 28th 7:00 - 11:00 am in the Media Center (Bldg 300)

Monday - Modified Day (Mondays only) / Color Guard Rehearsal 1:45 - 3:45 pm / Parade Band Rehearsal 2:30 - 3:30 pm

Tuesday - Woodwind Sectionals 2:30 - 4:00 pm / Percussion Rehearsal 3:00 - 5:30 pm / Color Guard Rehearsal 2:45 - 4:45 pm

Wednesday - Brass Arc 2:45 - 4:45 pm / Open House for Parents. Click HERE for the schedule. We will have our monthly Parent Meeting at the end of Open House from 7:30 pm

Thursday - Night Rehearsal 5:00 - 9:00 pm / Restaurant Fundraiser of the Week is at L & L in the Mira Mesa HS. No flyer needed, just tell them you are supporting the Mira Mesa HS Band when you order.

Friday - Set up for Pancake Breakfast after school. Student volunteers only.


Looking Ahead & Parent Information

Please fill out the Medical Form asap. All students in Band & Color Guard need to have their online forms in this week, as we are headed on our first bus ride to the SDSU game. Click HERE for the form.

The September Parent Meeting will be held at the end of "Back to School Night/Open House" this Wednesday, September 25 at 7:30 pm in the Band room.

The Fall Calendar dates are to help you plan through the first semester. For the calendar, CLICK HERE. Remember, our FIELD TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP is Saturday, November 23. Plan your vacation time from Sunday (11/24) to Sunday (12/1) for the Thanksgiving break.

Parents ask how they can help. There are always "items" that we need in the program, so if click HERE if you would like to see what we need. It would be great to spread out any donations throughout the school year. Swing by the room and/or email to find out if we truly need another box of tissue or more hand sanitizer any given week. The answer is probably yes! We just don't have a lot of room to store things, but anything donated is appreciated.


September Fundraisers - Weekly Restaurant Nights on Thursdays, Rehearse-a-Thon, and our Annual Pancake Breakfast

*** THIS SATURDAY FOR ALL OF THE SAPPHIRE SOUND - One of the biggest fundraisers of the year is our annual PANCAKE BREAKFAST! Saturday, September 28 is the "Breakfast on the Mesa" Pancake Breakfast from 7:00 - 11:00 am in the Media Center (Bldg 300)! Click HERE for the flyer to share with others. Bring your families, tell your neighbors, and friends to come eat a great breakfast and watch the Band perform! It's a great morning! Tickets are $10 and are now available from any student or from Mrs. C. Prior to the pancake breakfast, we will need volunteers to help with cooking bacon and sausage. We also need help the day of the pancake breakfast serving food, drinks, making coffee, set up and tear down. If you are unable to volunteer, but would like to help with donations, such as bacon, sausage, syrup, pancake mix, or orange juice that is a great way to help. Weekly restaurant fundraisers- During the fall marching season we try to have a Thursday fundraiser that is in walking distance to the high school. Each restaurant location then gives a portion of the proceeds back to our program. It makes things simple for dinner. This week's fundraiser is at L & L Restaurant at the Mira Mesa Mall. There is no need for a flyer, but please make sure you let them know you are supporting the Band when you order.

In the Band Director's Corner

This past Saturday, the Band & Color Guard performed for the SDSU HS Band Night at the SDCCU Stadium. It was a fun afternoon and evening with over 1000 student performers in attendance. Thank you to the chaperones and refreshments crew for all of your help!

What is a FTC? FTC stands for Field Trip Contribution. We have started our traveling by bus this past Saturday. Throughout the year, but especially in the fall semester, we will travel to multiple locations for performances and competitions. California Ed Code allows us to ask for the transportation costs for our students to travel by bus. When I total up the costs for the year, we come to the number asked on the envelope. This number has stayed the same for the past three years even though our gas prices have gone up. Please consider making your FTC donation this week. You can turn in cash, a check made payable to: MMIMB, or go on our website: and pay with a credit card. By the tme we get to November, we will have over $20,000 in bus charges and it is just the first half of the school year. Thank you ahead of time for your support! Open House is this Wednesday evening. You will follow the schedule of your student and then hopefully come back to the Band room for our shortened monthly meeting. It's already the end of September and we will be heading into field tournment competitions by the time we have our October meeting. Please try to make the 7:30 pm meeting to hear about all of the events for the next month.
