SPAM MUSUBI DAYS! On Mondays, students have the opportunity to purchase spam musubi at lunch. It takes a volunteer crew of parents and alumni parents each week to make sure there is enough to sell. No experience is required to help out! We are grateful to Kris Tokunaga for heading up this committee each week. If you are able to volunteer on a Monday morning, please email Kris at: kristok4@gmail.com If you wish to donate funds or ingredients, please also contact Kris to get the specific needs for our legendary lunchtime favorite treat.

RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER FOR THIS WEEK: Thursday, September 29 is at Raising Cane's from 11:00 am - 10:00 pm (Be sure to show this flyer and mention the Sapphire Sound)

NEXT WEEK'S RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER IS ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH: Best Pizza & Brew from 11:00 am - 9:00 pm (Flyer)

PROFESSIONAL PHOTO FUNDRAISER: Tanya Mercado is offering 30-minute sessions for students and families. A portion of each session will be donated back to the program. This is a great opportunity to have family holiday photos taken, senior pictures, BFF picture memories, etc. These sessions are limited to 40 slots and must be sold by October 31, 2022. Click HERE to book your session with our alum parent, Tanya. (https://book.usesession.com/t/j59Y4XXFF)

Click HERE to sign up for your preferred shift. It's our 30th Annual Mira Mesa Invitational Field Tournament on Saturday, November 5, 2022 and we need everyone's help to make it a successful day. We encourage all of our Band and Color Guard family and friends to volunteer at least 3 hours on tournament day. The more time you give, the smoother the tournament will run. Thank you for helping us with this big anniversary year!

In the Director's Corner

Our monthly Parent Meeting will be on Wednesday this week at the end of Open House at 7:30 pm in the Band room. Hear about all of the events happening in October and November which is our marching season. Speaking of marching season, the students of the Sapphire Sound are working hard. I invite you to come watch at the end of any of our night rehearsals. For rehearsals, this Friday was supposed to be a night rehearsal, but our stadium got booked for two offsite football teams to play one another. I have moved the rehearsal to Friday, October 14th. Fingers crossed the field stays clear!

Thank you to the students, staff, and parents for understanding me this past week. I received news that my mentor, Warren Torns, passed away. Everyone gave me grace. I am so fortunate to have such a supportive group of individuals and the support of a wonderful community. Mr. Torns retired from Mt. Carmel HS in 2009 and taught at Patrick Henry HS, Grossmont HS, and El Capitan over his career. He was a wonderful director, mentor, and music educator. Mr. Torns came in each year to work with our parade band and we will miss him dearly. The best gift we can give back is to work hard, be the best versions of ourselves possible, and make music together.

Grateful and “All In” always 💙💛,

Mrs. C

💙Raising Funds for the Sapphire Sound

Believe it or not, each year our operating budget is close to $250,000 to help bring opportunities to the students of the Sapphire Sound. All of our transportation, music, instruments and equipment, marching staff, color guard staff, and more comes from us being able to raise the funds needed to maintain this high quality program. We work hard at raising money through various fundraisers such as our annual Band Tournament, Pancake Breakfast, “Making the Cut” chili and bbq contest, restaurant nights, individual donations, and many more. It takes a wonderful village to support each student who wants to participate in this award-winning program. We also believe that no student will be denied the opportunity to participate in the Sapphire Sound due to individual monetary factors. On average the breakdown of costs per student totals just over $1,000 each year.

From this $1,000 per student, we have a transportation and field trip contribution of $350 that we ask for your help with. If you are able to help contribute, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to MMIMB (non-profit 501c3). To help make things easier you can make your donations via PayPal or Credit Card on the band website. Thank you for your support!

Ways you can help bring opportunities to our students:

We encourage you to pay what you are able with this year's transportation and field trip costs of $350 per student.

Do you have a matching funds program at your office or place of work? This is a wonderful way to double your support. Email our treasurers, Whitney Fabrie at: treasurer@mmimb.org or Yolanda Vallina at: assttreasurer1@mmimb.org to receive the tax id information and get help with this matching gift.

Sponsor a prop for $50! Our field show has several props each year including brand new front drops that border the sideline of the field. We are happy to have your name added to the sponsors list on the Band website.

Purchase a Show Shirt for a Band member. This is a unique year that requires a unique uniform. Please consider purchasing a special designed top that students will perform in. Your donation of $50 will help with the purchasing of 175 shirts.

Sponsor an instrument or donate an instrument. There's no denying instruments are expensive. Most of the instruments in the band cost somewhere between $1,200 - $9,000. If you are able to help contribute any monetary amount to the instrument fund, please consider giving a donation. If you have an instrument that isn't being used at home, send it in to the program. We are grateful to provide instruments to any student who needs one for the school year.

Color Guard equipment. The color guard uses flags, flag poles, faux rifles and sabres, and other equipment to help enhance the performance of music on the field. To sponsor a flag or flag pole is $25 and faux rifles or sabres are $50.
