About Us
Who We Are
The Mira Mesa HS "Sapphire Sound", nicknamed the Blue Team, is an award-winning ensemble that is located in the heart of San Diego. It is the largest Band program in the San Diego Unified School District. Mira Mesa HS is a community based school, so most of our students have grown up with one another. The Band openly accepts new students each year to the program and they always look forward to the many performance opportunities they have as a group.
The 200+ members of the Sapphire Sound are proud to represent the community of Mira Mesa in San Diego, CA. We were honored to march in the 2016 and 2022 Tournament of Roses Parades. We welcome ALL students into our program. We are the Sapphire Sound, the Blue Team!

Notable Achievements
20+ years in the SCSBOA Field Marching Championships
Hosted the Annual Mira Mesa Field Tournament (32 years)
Attend Festivals in Southern CA each year and select festivals across the Nation every other year
Winner of the President's Cup in 2024 by the MMHS Wind Ensemble (Washington, D.C.)
Represented the U.S. in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremonies
Represented CA in the National Independence Day Parade in 2001 in Washington, D.C.
Represented the City of San Diego in the 2016 and 2022 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA
Students have gone on to major in music (and other majors) at all large universities across the U.S. - We are proud of all of the alumni of the Sapphire Sound!
This year we will represent California in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade in Hawaii. We are honored to perform in this memorial tribute to those who lost their lives on December 7, 1941.

In order for our internationally-recognized, highly-ranked, competitive group to take advantage of opportunities like the Rose Parade, The President's Cup, and The Olympic Opening Ceremony, we invite parents and community members to donate or contribute!
This year we are traveling to Hawaii to represent our region in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade. Please feel free to make a payment, or donation to the program, to help the entire Sapphire Sound travel to Hawaii to honor our military heroes in this annual National event on December 7, 2024.
