Director of Bands
Biography
Mrs. C is in her 34th year in music education. She has spent her career teaching high school in the San Diego Unified School District as a Band Director and music educator. As a native of San Diego, Mrs. C grew up in the SDUSD schools in Clairemont and wanted to give back to the communities she has always loved. Mrs. C believes in "Music" and all that it can do for students. The arts are essential to the academic success of all students. Passion in teaching and a commitment to help students along the journey of four years of high school is one of the things she prides herself in.
Within the Band and Color Guard, she offers a comprehensive program for students of all musical and artistic levels from large ensembles to small ensembles. Students learn and develop instrumental skills, and they can take AP Music Theory, which helps their growth in music comprehension and composition. Students have repeated opportunities for performance, set high goals and standards, and have the opportunity to become a student leader. Accountability and teamwork are essential in each class.
Mrs. C strives to build relationships and a community for everyone, both with students and the families in the program.
Mrs. C is the immediate Past-President of SCSBOA (Southern CA School Band & Orchestra Association), the oldest professional organization for music education in the State of CA. She is also the current President-Elect of CBDA (which is the State level for the CA Band Directors Association), and she is a Past-President of the CMEA-SBS.
Mrs. C says, "It is an honor and privilege to help guide music education, not only for the students of Mira Mesa HS, but also at the state level in CA." Her favorite mottos are "All in" and "Make a Difference".
